Lots of emotions and breathtaking fights took place on day one of the 2019 IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu World Championship — Thursday, May 30. On the mats, as well as brave white-belts, we had technical, hungry blue-belts across all weights and both genders.
Standing out among the champions were Rui Neto (Alliance) and Iasmim Casser (Atos), the two blue-belt absolute champions.
Rui Neto, a pupil of Isaque Bahiense, lost the final of the medium heavyweight division but didn’t skip a beat. After winning three incredibly tough matches, Rui faced an absolute final against Enderson Almeida (GFTeam), the middleweight champion. This was also a tough one, and Enderson was leading for almost the entire duration, but in an offensive explosion, Rui managed to rid himself of the 50/50 guard, almost take the back, mount and apply a choke.
Iasmim Casser made Atos Jiu-Jitsu proud with two gold medals and a bunch of points for the team. The Mendes brothers-trained athlete had won the heavyweight title over Clarissa Rocha (GFTeam) when she was again put face to face with Clarissa with absolute gold on the line. Iasmim swept and then held the 2-0 score until the end.
